Career Description
As a vital part of the healthcare team, you will help improve the health and quality of life for the physically and mentally ill. Your duties can include helping patients eat, dress, bathe, walk and get in and out of bed. Nurse Assistants also monitor and report changes in patients’ physical, mental and emotional conditions. Compassion is a very important quality in this profession, as many of the individuals you assist are confined to hospitals or nursing homes. Nurse Assistants work under the supervision of the nursing and medical staff. You can find employment in hospitals, nursing or residential care facilities, or at a patient’s home. Nursing Assistants are also referred to as Nursing Aides.
Employment Outlook
Employment of Nurse Assistants is expected to grow rapidly in response to the long-term care needs of an aging population. In Arizona, Nurse Assistant positions are expected to increase 30% or more in the next 10 years. Nurse Assistants earn an average of $7.71 to $13.12 an hour for an average salary of $16,037 to $27,290 a year.
